Skydiving Questions
What does skydiving feel like?
It's almost impossible to describe the feeling of skydiving, but we promise it will be one of the best and most memorable experiences of your life. The combination of pure adrenaline of freefall, combined with the mixture of exhilaration and relief under parachute and landing is not comparable to anything else.
Many believe that a skydive feels similar to a freefall attraction in an amusement park, but that isn't quite accurate. Due to the horizontal velocity of the airplane when exiting, the transition to freefall is more gradual.
The only way to truly know what we're talking about is to try it out yourself!
How long is the freefall?
The freefall generally lasts for about 50-60 seconds, and the parachute is deployed at an altitude of 1700 meters, which gives a total freefall distance of approximately 2300 meters.
After your freefall, you have an exciting parachute flight with a breathtaking view to look forward to for about 5-10 minutes before landing on the ground again.
How fast will I fall?
During a Tandem Skydive one generally reaches a freefall speed of about 200 km/h.
When is the best time to skydive?
That's impossible to answer. A clear Friday in September with views all the way to Stockholm can be just as fantastic as a brilliantly warm Sunday in August or a partly cloudy Tuesday in June.
Do you need any previous experience to go tandem skydiving?
Not at all. Tandem skydiving is designed to make sure that anyone can get the chance to try skydiving. You will jump with a professional instructor and you'll receive all the instructions you need on-site. All you have to do is enjoy the experience!
Can you breathe in freefall?
There's absolutely no problem breathing in freefall. However, due to stress and adrenaline standing in the door at 4000 meters – some people simply forget to breathe.
I'm afraid of heights!
Believe it or not, even many experienced skydivers are both afraid of heights and of flying. Overcoming your own fears is part of the experience. Trust us, it's extremely rare that any of our customers regret their decision afterwards. 😉
Is tandem skydiving safe?
Skydiving always involves some inherent risks. However, tandem skydiving has been developed to minimize these risks and is the absolute safest way for the general public to experience skydiving. A tandem skydive with one of our professional instructors and modern skydiving gear is the safest possible way to try it.
All our instructors are highly experienced, with many years in the sport and many thousands of jumps. Skydive Stockholm has been skydiving since 1958, and we're the only skydiving club in Sweden with a twin engine aircraft, a DHC-6-300 Twin Otter which is one of the safest skydiving aircraft in the world.
General Questions
When do I need to arrive and how long does it take?
The time you book is your arrival time. You don’t need to come any earlier than that.
Plan for the entire experience to take about two hours from arrival until you’re finished and ready to head home.
What do I need to bring?
Comfortable shoes and durable clothing. We’ll take care of the rest.
What about the weather?
Skydiving is a weather-dependent sport. We do our best to assess the conditions in advance and always inform you 2 hours before your arrival time about the day’s outlook, to help avoid unnecessary trips.
However, predicting the weather isn’t always easy, and sometimes it doesn’t turn out as we expect. On hard-to-assess days, your jump may be delayed, or in the worst case, cancelled.
Can I bring my own GoPro or camera during the skydive?
No, cameras, cell phones, or any other loose items are not allowed due to safety reasons.
If you want video and photos of your skydive, we recommend taking a closer look at our video packages.
Do you offer group discounts?
Please contact us directly for more information about group discounts (groups of more than 3 people).
- Phone: 08-410 458 67
- E-mail: tandem@skydive.se
What days are you open?
Our season runs from the end of April to the beginning of October. During the summer we jump almost every day, but in spring and autumn our services are generally limited to weekends.
Have a look at our booking calendar » for more detailed information.
What if I go up in the plane and don't dare to jump?
It’s actually quite uncommon for anyone to refuse to jump once they’re in the plane. While feeling nervous before your first skydive is completely normal, most people feel much more at ease once they meet their instructor and complete their ground training.
Most of the time, our pilot will be able to fly the aircraft around again to give you a second chance, but we will never force anyone to jump. In the rare cases where one of our customers lands with the plane, we unfortunately cannot offer a refund. The flight up costs the same regardless of whether the jump takes place.
Do I have insurance as a tandem passenger?
Everyone skydiving with us at Skydive Stockholm is insured through the Swedish Parachute Association's insurance at Söderberg & Partners.
See SFF's home page » for details.
What airplane do you jump from?
We jump from a DHC-6-300 Twin Otter named Erik-Erik. It's one of the safest skydiving planes in the world, and we are the only skydiving center in Sweden with a twin-engine aircraft.
Can my friends, family and dog come as well?
Of course! We have a large viewing area right next to the landing field with several picnic tables where your friends and family can watch you land. Be sure to ask your instructor what color parachute you’ll have so your loved ones can follow you during the flight.
Dogs are also welcome, but must always be kept on a leash. Be aware that it may be a somewhat stressful and noisy environment at times, but you know your own dog best.
Can my husband or wife come up in the plane with me?
Unfortunately not. Only skydivers and tandem passengers are allowed on the flight.
That's unless you convince them to buy their own tandem skydive of course. 😉
Do you have a café or restaurant on-site?
We have a cafeteria offering simple meals, snacks, and hot and cold drinks.
Can we bring our own picnic?
Yes, you can bring a picnic basket (but no alcohol) and make use of any of the picnic tables we have on the grounds. There's also a large grassy area where you can spread out a blanket and watch your loved ones and other skydivers land.
Photo & Video
Can I add photo/video on arrival?
This can usually be arranged, but we cannot always guarantee the availability of a photographer. If you want to be absolutely certain that your experience is captured on film, make sure to book it in advance.
If you're still undecided, we strongly recommend that you take a closer look at our video packages.
Can I book one photographer for me and my friend?
Tandem jumpers exit separately and the distance between them in freefall is too great for the photographer to film more than one person at a time.
Our photographers are happy to take a few group pictures on the ground and in the plane, but if you want photos and videos of your actual skydive, you need to purchase your own package.
How will I receive my video and photos?
You will receive a download link by email, usually within 4–6 hours of your skydive.
All photos and videos are securely stored in the cloud for one year, so if you happen to lose anything, you’re always welcome to contact us again.
Age, Weight and Health
Is there an age limit for skydiving?
The minimum age in Sweden is 12 years old with parental consent. There is no upper age limit.
Can I wear glasses?
Yes, most glasses will fit under our protective goggles. Contact lenses are fine as well.
I have a physical disability. Can I still jump?
It’s often not a problem.
Contact us at tandem@skydive.se for specific questions.
Is there a weight limit?
Max weight is 105 kg. An additional fee of 300 SEK applies for anyone over 95 kg.
Bookings
Can my friend who's accompanying me book a tandem skydive on site?
Let us know immediately when you arrive that you have more people in your group looking to jump. If there are available slots, it can usually be arranged right away. Even if it’s fully booked, we can often make it happen with some rearranging and a bit of extra waiting time.
Of course, the best course of action is to convince your friend to join you well in advance, and book them in when you make your own reservation! 🙂
Can I specify someone else as a contact person?
Yes, you can. Please take extra care to ensure that all contact details are accurate as we send a weather update via SMS two hours before your planned arrival. Also, please make sure they fully understand our booking procedures and how to travel to the dropzone.
Do you offer Drop-In jumps?
We offer drop-in jumps subject to availability.
If you really want to jump today, you’re welcome to give us a call at 08-410 458 67.
How far ahead do I need to book?
It’s usually fine to book the same week you're looking to jump. If you really want to come on a specific day or at a specific time, it can be a good idea to book 2–3 weeks in advance.
Have a look at our booking calendar » to see if your preferred date and time are available.
